Turkish-Hungarian children’s friendship – April 19, 2012

On the first anniversary of the sister school agreement concluded last year the Bolyai János Primary School invited the delegation of the Güneşli Primary School of Istanbul. The hosts arranged a rich programme to their guests: it began on Wednesday morning with exhibition opening ceremonies and inauguration of memorial tablet in the school building and schoolyard, followed by a quiz on regional history in the Hairdresser Museum and finished by special city sightseeing by bus led by the mayor.
Éva Röhrig director of the institute, recalling the guests and hosts, assembled at the school, to the establishment of the sister school relationship said: the schools planned to co-operate first of all in the field of culture and sport, with the purpose that this relationship would be the bridge between the two countries, two districts, Kispest and Pendik, same as Lánchíd (Chain Bridge) between Pest and Buda, or Bosporus Bridge between Europe and Asia. Targets fixed in agreement between the two educational institutes have been realized so far since mutual friendship has been formed between the teachers and students of Bolyai school and the Güneşli Primary School, Turkish and Hungarian students are writing to each other in order to practice English language.
In his congratulations Péter Gajda was delighted to tell that this latest and active sister town connection of Kispest, also owing to the two institutions, became closer and more intensive as a tangible result of which Hungarian children could also get acquainted with local culture in the Turkish city.
After congratulations participants saw Zoltán Sivók’s postcard exhibition together, Zoltán Balázs’ special paintings, who is teacher of the school, as well as a retrospective exhibition on regional history arranged by Mrs. Á. Bényi and Mrs. G. Dániel in school aula. Afterwards they inaugurated Péter László’s memorial tablet, who donated his sculpture titled Rock-goat to the school in 1983.
Next scene of today program was to see a treasure of Kispest, among one-man shows, the Hairdresser Museum unique in the capital. This museum made a home for the quiz on regional history the questions of which were made up by the headmistress of the school, making no secret of her purpose that participants should get to know as much as possible about Kispest, sculptures, legends related to the district. Turkish guests also paid great attention to Gyula Korom museum director who were telling tales about hairdressing, the old tools and appliances.
In the afternoon the delegation took a bus and set out to an irregular sightseeing led by Peter Gajda mayor, who told about the history of the town, as well as about the huge growth and development that was characteristic of Kispest in recent years. On the way they stopped for a while near Vass Lajos Primary School at the public gardens – at the corner of Irányi utca and Bem utca – where works will shortly be completed to handover next week.

Bakile Mutlu, head of Güneşli Primary School, leader of the Turkish delegation said at the end of the day: he came to Kispest again with pleasure, he takes Hungary for his adopted country and he found the head of the Bolyai school a true friend. Kispest still represents the island of peace, he likes people living here as they are happy, “people of leisure”, there is no one rushing to and fro as where they live in Istanbul. Kispest is town in town having more and more green and flowery fields. He found it an example to be followed that Kispest residents are proud of living here, they form their close neighbourhood with feeling and take care of the values they had created. From among the programs of the day he stressed the Hairdresser Museum and sightseeing of excellent atmosphere led by the mayor.
